1. Downtown Aquarium
Downtown Aquarium is a public aquarium. It’s home to more than 200 different species of aquatic animals.
While you’re there, be sure to sign your kids up for the Zoologist for a Day program. The aquarium does a fantastic job of working with young ones. And, they work with outreach programs and school groups to boot.
Besides educational programs, there are several exhibits to explore. One of them, called Shipwreck, features an authentic 17th-century Spanish galleon.
While looking at the Shipwreck exhibit, keep a lookout for a giant Pacific octopus. Don’t forget to look for other ocean friends, such as bright blue tangs and clownfish. There’s so much ocean life to discover!
Let’s not forget about special events. The aquarium is home to a beautiful venue called Nautilus Ballroom. This hall makes the perfect setting for events like weddings and corporate get-togethers.
It’s hard not to be in awe of this stunning ballroom. It’s already perfect that it’s at an aquarium, but if you go to the balcony, you get to enjoy beautiful views of the downtown skyline. It’s one of the best views in the entire city!
2. Houston Zoo
To get to know some elephants, sea lions, giraffes, and more, head to the Houston Zoo.
People love hanging out at this zoo, where they get a glimpse at wildlife from around the globe. There’s always something exciting to do there, such as watching an elephant get a bath.
A few other fun activities include visiting tapirs and feeding the giraffes.
In case you’re wondering, tapirs are entertaining creatures to observe. And it turns out that giraffes love munching on lettuce leftovers, and watching them eat is a blast!
It’s impossible to get bored while you’re making friends with all the animals.
3. San Jacinto Monument and Museum
San Jacinto Monument and Museum is an iconic location everyone should see.
There’s no way you can miss the incredible monument. It is a 567.31-foot-high column that memorializes the site of the Battle of San Jacinto. This significant event was the pivotal battle of the Texas Revolution.
While you’re there, take an elevator ride to the top of the Monument. You’ll be in awe of the museum inside. This impressive museum has over 2,000 artworks and artifacts that bring history to life. Touring the galleries is a great way to spend an afternoon.
4. Axelrad Beer Garden
Axelrad Beer Garden has a lot more to offer than beer. Housed in a renovated 100-year-old building, this restaurant has it all.
The garden itself is home to many different types of plants. You’ll see native, heirloom, and regional plants. Together, they provide the perfect backdrop for your night out.
Many other features draw people to Axelrod. Visitors enjoy their live entertainment and the hammocks on their patio. There’s even an oversized projection screen for watching the Texans, Rockets, and Astros!
This is such a fun spot, we dare say you’ll never get bored!
5. Johnson Space Center
Have you ever wanted to learn how astronauts are trained? At the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, you can!
NASA has a 100-building complex at the Space Center. You can find it in the Clear Lake Area of Houston on 1,620 acres of land.
The Space Center is a pretty special place, as it trains astronauts from the U.S. and other countries.
If you’re a fan of unique activities, you’ll enjoy Galaxy Lights, the Center’s interactive light show. There’s hardly anything else like it in the whole state!
6. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts
If you’re a fan of live music and theater, the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is the place for you. This performing arts venue hosts all sorts of shows, from Fiddler on the Roof to Blue Man Group.

7. David Adickes Studio
To see some incredibly fresh and unique art, head to David Adickes Studio. This is where artist David Adickes and his team create gigantic statues of historical figures.
These sculptures consist of giant heads of American presidents. Stare up at Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama, and George Washington. They’re one of a kind and look incredible in person!
It goes without saying that Houston has some fun activities for the whole family.
